Munich – August 24, 2020 – Baerlocher supports Buddy Bear Berlin GmbH with patronage of a bear for the 65th anniversary of the Tierpark Berlin on 2nd July 2020, where the exhibition “The Art of Tolerance” of the United Buddy Bears was opened under great interest of the press. Many visitors who have visited the Baerlocher company headquarters in Unterschleissheim fondly remember two bear sculptures decorating the main entrance and making guests smile. These are the Buddy Bears that have accompanied Baerlocher as loyal companions for more than twenty years.
The bear sculptures were made for Baerlocher by the company Buddy Bear Berlin GmbH in Berlin. Since 2002, more than 140 of these bears have been travelling the world as United Buddy Bears within the scope of a travelling exhibition entitled "The Art of Tolerance". At present 146 United Buddy Bears from 146 countries stand together "hand in hand" and symbolise the vision of a future peaceful world and promote international understanding and tolerance. Each United Nations bear (United Buddy Bears) was individually designed by an artist from the respective country. The different styles convey knowledge about the art and culture of their countries of origin.
On its world tour, the exhibition has already been shown on all 5 continents and was able to inspire more than 40 million visitors. After stops in Sydney, Cairo, Hong Kong, Jerusalem, Havana, Paris and Rio de Janeiro, among others, the United Buddy Bears will return to their home country with the 34th exhibition on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of the Berlin Zoo and can be visited in Europe's largest landscape animal garden until further notice.
Berlin's Governing Mayor, Michael Müller, and Federal Minister for Family Affairs, Dr. Franziska Giffey, have taken over the patronage of this exhibition that brings people together. On July 2, 2020, the Minister held a speech in front of the invited guests and the press, alongside the Director of the Zoo, Dr. Andreas Knieriem, and the initiator of the United Buddy Bears, Eva Herlitz.
At the beginning of the year, Baerlocher had the opportunity to take over a patronage for one of the United Buddy Bears and thus support charity projects. In honor of the 25th anniversary of its legal entity Baerlocher Malaysia, Baerlocher has taken over the patronage of the United Buddy Bear for the country of Malaysia. The United Buddy Bear is among of the United Buddy Bears in the Tierpark Berlin - “hand in hand” with Mali (left) and Malawi (right). “It is a pleasure for us being a bear patron of the Malaysian Buddy Bear and to contribute to setting an example of tolerance and cosmopolitan attitude,” says Dr. Tobias Rosenthal, Shareholder of the Baerlocher group of companies, adding: “Baerlocher has been internationally active for over 37 years. Today we have subsidiaries and Joint Ventures in Europe, the Americas and Asia. As a family-owned company, we are very aware of our social responsibility. Tolerance towards other cultures and an unbiased solidarity with our colleagues from all over the world are part of the DNA of our company.”
