Baerlocher strengthens its footprint in recycling applications at Plastics Recycling Show Europe in Amsterdam

Munich, 21 February 2020 – Spurred by the high level of interest of plastic recyclers at Baerlocher´s stand at the K-Show last year, the company has decided to exhibit at the Plastics Recycling Show Europe in Amsterdam from March 25-26. Baerlocher will also be participating in events in the United States and Germany to further push the topic of plastics recycling.Baerlocher, one of the leading suppliers of PVC additives, is also a long-established provider of additives for PP, PE and other thermoplastics developed by its Special Additives business unit. The portfolio includes the unique Baeropol RST stabilizer, which has formed the basis for a set of additive blends that have been found to be particularly useful in polyolefin recycling applications. Baerlocher offers fully formulated antioxidant packages under the Baeropol T-Blend range of products. The stabilizers from Baerlocher are available in a dust-free pastille form – much appreciated by recyclers, who often struggle to handle powder materials. Unlike traditional additives diluted in master batches, these products have 100% active content. The improved quality of the recyclate is quickly made apparent in a downstream film blowing line, for example, where less gelling and fewer degradation products lead to less bubble breakage and a more homogenous mechanical performance of the film. Henrik Eriksson, Technical Product Manager at Baerlocher, commented: “Sometimes proving the value of our product is as easy as showing that the addition of our Baeropols stabilizes the melt flow index (MFI) during recycling. In this way, we can demonstrate how the customer can produce a more consistent recyclate for further processing. This is a key advantage, as inconsistent processing properties are one of the main reasons that processors stay away from recycled plastics.” The product range contains additive one-packs not only stabilizing the MFI, but also make polypropylene solidify faster and more uniformly in the mold, allowing for shorter cycle times and safeguarding the dimensional stability as the producer moves from batch to batch. PE-recyclates for pipes and large products
Another specialty product currently in upscaling trials at selected customers is designed as a PP/PE compatibilizer and PE melt strength enhancer. This product is able to transfer low melt strength PE-recyclates into a material suitable for pipe extrusion or extrusion blow molding of large parts.
With its unique product range, Baerlocher has found a concept that provides recyclers with a recipe for growth, tackling all of the factors that typically leading to the low usage of additives in the recycling industry. Baeropols serve as the backbone for the upcycling of polymers. In this way, Baerlocher facilitates the use of more recycled plastics in demanding applications. The Plastics Recycling Show Europe, which will include key industry figures, will address the latest opportunities and challenges faced by the plastic recycling industry in Europe. The event covers the supply chain from design for raw materials, design for recycling, collection, sorting and recycling of industrial, commercial, agricultural and post-consumer plastic through to the recycled polymer being designed and incorporated into new products and applications. Baerlocher on tour to push plastic recycling
Baerlocher will also be participating in a number of other events to further push the topic of plastics recycling. At the International Polyolefins Conference in Houston on February 26, 2020 at 8 am, Rob Sherman, Global Technology Lead for Polyolefin Additives at Baerlocher USA, will give a presentation entitled “Stabilization of Polymers for a more Circular Economy”. At the same day at 11:30 am, Ian Query, Technical Specialist at Baerlocher USA, will speak about “The importance of chemical stabilization of recycled material for corrugated and conduit polyolefin”.
On March 24, 2020, Andreas Holzner, Global Head of Business Unit Special Additives at Baerlocher, will present at the Handelsblatt Annual Conference on Chemistry about “Upcycling through Additives”. The conference is organized by Germany's most important business newspaper, Handelsblatt, and is an important indicator of the sentiment in the industry. About Baerlocher:
