History

The plant was built in the early 1970s and was meant above all for the production of metal soaps for PVC (polyvinylchloride) processing. The plastic material PVC, one of the most widely used in the world for its versatility and cheapness, can turn into a variety of finished items only after adding certain additives which guarantee in-process stability. In the course of time such products evolved into fully-fledged items which not only provide for raw material processability, but also guarantee long term stability (to weather conditions, for instance) to the finished products
The remarkable experience gathered over the years, the technological advances achieved and the changes witnessed in market demand have caused shifts in raw material selection by comparison to the 1970s as in fact today they no longer use certain heavy metals (such as cobalt and manganese) and solvents (xylenes, toluene, benzene, trichloroethane and trichloroethylene) or certain intermediates such as phenol, or raw materials such as nitric acid. The range of products changed too and, for instance, siccatives based on zirconium, manganese and cobalt, have gone out of production.

BAERLOCHER ITALIA S.p.A.’s current formulations for solid, paste and liquid products represent a large share of the Company’s manufacturing activity.

The Company was founded by four Italian partners and was called “COMMER S.p.A.” It later went though structural changes until the founding partners withdrew in the early 1990s and the firm became full property of BAERLOCHER GmbH, headquartered in Munich, Bayern – an international Group active in the PVC additives business.

In 1991 the Company name also changed from COMMER S.p.A. to BAERLOCHER ITALIA S.p.A..

The full acquisition by BAERLOCHER GmbH involved decisions which deeply impacted the reality of BAERLOCHER ITALIA S.p.A., namely :
